Ginger Macaulay, DVM
Dr. Ginger Macaulay attended Clemson University and graduated from the University of Georgia Veterinary College in 1984. Born and raised in the Lexington area, Dr. Macaulay returned in 1986 and began working at Cherokee Trail Veterinary Hospital. She purchased the hospital in 1998.
Dr. Macaulay presently shares her home with a number of four-legged friends. She is a past president of the South Carolina Veterinary Association and the Cultural Council. She attends St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Lexington. Dr. Macaulay enjoys sports; the outdoors, especially rock climbing in Wyoming, Broadway, and anything Disney related.
Heyward Boyette, DVM
Dr. Heyward Boyette graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994 and joined Cherokee Trail Veterinary Hospital in 1998. He became a partner at Cherokee Trail Veterinary Hospital in 2000.
Dr. Boyette has a wife and two daughters and serves on the board of directors of the Carolina Ballet. He is a member of St. Albans Church and the Lexington Rotary Club. Dr. Boyette is an avid reader and also enjoys sketching and Ohio State football.
Mary Keisler, DVM
Dr. Mary Keisler graduated from Louisiana State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She joined Cherokee Trail Veterinary Hospital in 1996. She is a district representative for the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians, a member of the Board of Trustees and Booster Club Board at Heathwood Hall, on the President’s Advisory Council at Wofford College, and is involved with her church council at St. Stephens Lutheran Church.
Dr. Keisler is married and has two daughters, Lauren and Caroline. Dr. Keisler is very active in the community. She enjoys meeting people and their pets and helping them when they are in need.
Lacy Strom, DVM
Dr. Lacy Strom hails from the small town of Bennettsville, South Carolina. He attended Marlboro County High School, where he was involved in varsity tennis and wrestling, various academic/service organizations, and reached the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated in 2004 and attended the University of South Carolina. While at Carolina, Dr. Strom served on the University’s Religious Affairs Committee and founded the Pre-Veterinary Club. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies in 2008. Upon completing his undergraduate degree, Dr. Strom was accepted into the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where he graduated in May 2013.
Dr. Strom is especially interested in small animal internal medicine and endocrinology, surgery, and diagnostic imaging. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Ashley, and their three boys. During his free time, he practices and competes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, is an avid reader and lover of books, and is an amateur coffee connoisseur. He also enjoys spending a quiet afternoon on the lake fishing or on a trail hiking with his family.
Alix Drye, DVM
Dr. Drye graduated from Clemson University (Go Tigers!) with her BS in Animal and Veterinary Sciences and then obtained her DVM from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. While in vet school, Dr. Drye served as her class’s SAVMA representative, was a student ambassador to the college, and was heavily involved in OTS, a veterinary service fraternity.
Dr. Drye and her husband, Aaron, live with their two dogs, Duncan, a pit bull mix, and Augustus, a silly yellow lab. In her spare time, Dr. Drye enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time on Lake Murray; she loves exploring new restaurants in town.
Desiree Stensing, DVM
Dr. Des (formally Dr. Desiree’ Stensing) joined the Cherokee Trail Veterinary Hospital team in January 2022 after practicing small animal medicine for six years in the North Georgia mountains. She graduated in 2012 from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s degree in microbial, cellullar, and molecular biology (concentration: microbiology). In 2015, she went on to get her doctorate in veterinary medicine. Dr. Des has a special interest in internal medicine but also enjoys keeping geriatric pets happy and comfortable as they age and more health problems emerge. She also likes the challenge of figuring out unusual cases. She lives with her husband, Dr. Brannon Rickman, who is also a veterinarian and practices at Dutch Fork Animal Hospital. They have two dogs – Emma, a border collie, and Bones, a rescue pit bull. Dr. Des enjoys gardening, fishing, hiking, racquetball, photography, crafts, and doing pretty much anything outdoors in her free time. She also enjoys traveling and most recently explored New Zealand and Peru—her husband and she visit as many national parks as possible. Dr. Des looks forward to making lasting relationships with all of the furbabies here (and their people, of course).
